ÃÊ·Ï Lee, Namgeun. (2015). A Data Driven Learning Approch to English Extraposition Constructions. The Linguistic Association of Korea Journal 23(3), 69-83. DDL(Date Driven Learning), developed from corpus linguistics, plays a pioneering role in allowing languages learners to observe authentic corpus data and induce grammar rules. This paper discusses the application of DDL in learning the so-called Vacuous Object Extraposition. The construction, where no intervening expression exists between the expletive it and the extraposed clause is well-known for its grammatical complexity, challenging even high-level EFL learners. The paper discusses how to unveil its grammar patterns, and even induce possible grammatical rules throuth DDL. The study shows that DDL can help learners to study naturally occurring language for the complex phenomenon and encourage learners to develop skills needed to deal with the language around them, which eventually contributes to the development of their cognitive skills.
