ÃÊ·Ï Choi, Jeong-A & Lee, Yae-Sheik. (2016). The Acquisition of Reflexive Pronouns by Korean EFL Learners: Focus on their Violation of Subset Principle. The Linguistic Association of Korea Journal, 24(4), 395-411. This study aims to show that Korean EFL learners acquire English reflexive pronouns in a way of violating Subset Principle in language acquisition. To prove it, this study conducted two experiments of a grammatical judgement test and a story-based truth value judgement test about how Korean learners of English learn reflexive pronouns with two groups of Korean EFL learners : a group of Korean middle school students(n=103), and a group of Korean college students(n=153). This study found that the subjects showed such a tendency that the less they were exposed to English, the wider domain they allowed for the occurrence of reflexive pronouns antecedents, and vice versa. Such a domain narrowing acquisition might support the stance that second language acquisition is also a process of setting parameters as in first language acquisition. The findings of this study hint that Korean EFL learners acquire reflexive pronouns depending on the innate knowledge of Governing Category Parameter(GCP).
